Volunteer with Children in Africa - [Graduate Nurses needed 2018]

Image
Childcare centers in Africa can take many different shapes and sizes. Many have children as old as 18 and as young as babies. These children are in need of educational support, care, and friendship, which local staff are often to busy to offer them on an individual basis. Your work in an orphanage care center in Africa will provide these children with the support and mental stimulation that all children need to develop healthy social skills and self-confidence. Volunteer work in African care centers can make a large impact on both you and the children themselves. We recommend going for eight weeks or more if you are doing a project that involves social work. However, some projects can accommodate volunteers for as little as one week. You can impact the lives of numerous children in Africa by donating your time and energy volunteering in a care center in  Togo . Our care work volunteers come during various stages of their life – gap years, university vacations, career breaks, an

Moving from Volunteering in Orphanages to Community-based Care

Image
Moving from Volunteering in Orphanages to Community-based Care zoom For many years Projects Abroad has worked closely with orphanages and other residential care centers to help provide better care and support to vulnerable children. Our volunteers have made a significant impact by improving living conditions at these orphanages and creating opportunities for children through supporting their education and care. However, placing children in orphanages and residential homes should be the last resort for any child. Wherever possible, children should be raised by their parents, close family, or a foster family from the extended community. This community-based approach to care is a more sustainable and long-term solution to caring for vulnerable children than orphanages. Over the past several years, our  Care Projects  have gradually shifted focus to community-based care. Our goal is provide more support to local organizations and community-and family-based care so children are rai

A Happy Family for Charlie

Image
Once again, a wonderful privilege to introduce a beautiful family to their new son . Charlie has waited in an orphanage for many years but his years of waiting are over! He is now a member in full standing of a precious American family. Although Charlie cannot hear with his ears, his heart heard and felt the love radiating from his mother and father from the first day that they met. Charlie is now in his forever home, meeting and getting acquainted with his three brothers, two older and one younger. Adoption is all about FAMILY. Charlie has been chosen and adopted into this family, with the full rights of a son, just as God has chosen us and adopted us into His family, with the full rights of His son or daughter!😊

Milk Program - (You can be a part of it)

Our Milk Program continues to provide for babies in need. Babies come to us from several surrounding villages, sometimes as far as 25 miles away. . Baby weighing The need for help may be because mama has died and grandmother is the one caring for the baby. Or, it can be a case where mama is not in good health and is not producing enough milk to sustain her baby. Another need is for twins or even triplets and the mama just cannot feed all of her babies. Baby Sadia This past week we were presented with another need of a little 16 month old who is severely malnourished and weighs only 12 pounds. Because there are many children in the family and because it is the beginning of the planting season, the father could not allow his wife to leave the village and go to the malnourished center. But, thanks to the Milk Program we were able to provide an enriched baby cereal for the mother to feed her baby.   Grandmother caring for her granddaughter We are so thankful for each
